I’ve been a Netflix subscriber for years, so to find that my Evo was preloaded with Blockbuster and no sign of Netflix joining the ranks soon was terrible. As you know I was very unhappy that we’ve been so neglected on our Android phones. I mentioned it last week when talking about the new addition of Google Movies. Finally though we have some love from Netflix, for at least a few devices. Hopefully soon an update will roll out to include more!
• HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
• HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
• HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
• HTC G2 with Android 2.2
• Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3
I immediately downloaded the the app and signed in just to check it out, and I’m happy to report it plays rather well. I also absolutely loved the layout. I love having the ability to check out my queue, as well as search for new stuff and even browse the categories. Also on the home screen, you can restart something you’ve previously started on either your phone, website, or any of the other instant options.

I especially think this app will come in handy on those long summer trips. It’s definitely made me appreciate the fact that I’ve got unlimited data! I did find out after spending some more time with it, as expected, that it does drain the battery. So make sure you’ve got a charger near by. Occasionally it seemed that the video would lag behind the sound. I found that if I backed out and jumped back in it fixed the issue, this could have been a network issue more then anything but it’s worth pointing out.
Keep in mind, you do need to have a Netflix account to use the app. The download however is free, and you can use the mobile services at no additional cost. I’ve added a few shots so you can see the idea of the image quality, I took them running it over 3G, I find it’s a bit better running over 4G or wifi. Really though even on 3G it’s pretty fantastic.

Pick up the Netflix app in the Android Market free of charge today, then let us know what you think!
