The main idea for a “Big Android BBQ” was originally thought up by Aaron Kasten who attended the 2010 Google I/O Conference. He came up with a plan to host a small event where Google and Android lovers can get together and have a great time.
With his buddy Keivan Askari they were able to throw together a Beta BBQ as a test run to see how far their idea would actually make it. After serious thought and consideration Aaron came to the following conclusion.
“I remember after the Beta BBQ talking with Big Keivan thinking, “yeah I think we could do this for 100 people”, then less than a month later after AndroidGuys, AndroidandME, AndroidSWAG, and TheDroidGuy got involved, it became apparent that 100 was not nearly an ambitious enough goal, suddenly we were talking about including 500 or even 1000 people! It was time to get to work.”
With much success of the Big Keivan Beta BBQ, they began planning the 2010 Big Android BBQ.
Many of you gals and guys out there were lucky enough to attend the very first Big Android BBQ in 2010, but some of you like me were unfortunately not able to make it.
The Big Android BBQ Team for 2011 is Aaron Kasten, Ray Walters, Russell Holly, Jake Southers, Benji Hertel, Michael Lipson, Chris Soyars, Rami Abusheikh, Dobie Wollert and of course our very own two lovely Androidgals Stacie Nuss and Kirsty Lawer!! With many old and new supporting Sponsors, there will be plenty of excitement to look forward to. It is ridiculous how much time the team has put into all the planning and it is simply the best example of true Android Community spirit and dedication. So I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to all involved! You guys are AWESOME!
With months and months of planning and over 700 people attending there will be tons to look forward to. AndroidGuys is hosting a Friday night pizza/pool party to kick the weekend off right! And Saturday is mostly for educating by Developers, different modders and hackers, and development sessions from several companies like Adobe, HTC, SRS Labs, and Orbotix. Sunday is for even more fun and good times, with music, food, drinks, games, lots of hanging out and really just having a great time.
For almost a year now, I have been chatting with a variety of people who share the love for Google and Android. When I heard there was going to be another BBQ for 2011 I was so excited! I bought my ticket as soon as they went on sale and immediately started planning on how I was going to travel from NY to TX. Even though it’s a long way from home I know it’s going to be AMAZING to finally meet everyone in person this weekend October 1-2 in Austin, TX. For more info check out the Big Android BBQ homepage: http://bigandroidbbq.com/
Everyone that I have met along the way has been absolutely wonderful. The support and encouragement throughout the Android Community has even given me the opportunity to share my thoughts and opinions with all of you, right here on Androidgals.
I’m really looking forward to an epic weekend with great friends and chances to make great memories. Stay tuned for pictures and stories from the Big Android BBQ 2011. Many of our AndroidGals are attending so be sure to check out all of our stories and experiences. Hopefully it will convince you to make it next year!
