I Can’t Wait to Grab Ice Cream Sandwich!

I’m amazed at how much the Android experience improves with each new OS update.  The recent demos we’ve seen of Ice Cream Sandwich (aka Android 4.0) prove that this next update will certainly not disappoint.

Obviously, it’s high time that we could grab screen shots right off our Android without having to root the phone.  Beyond the “it’s about darn time”, there are some other great new features that I can’t wait to get my hands on:

  • I’m about 50/50 on whether I want to view a site’s mobile site on my Andy.  Being able to easily move between from the mobile version to the full version will be a great thing.
  • I’ve been using the Swype keyboard for a while now, but I think the redesigned keyboard – as well as the streamlined speech to text entry – may make data entry on the Android even easier.
  • I’m interested in trying the face recognition unlock feature.
  • The improved camera app and onboard photo editing tools also look like fun to play around with.

What features of Ice Cream Sandwich are you looking most forward to trying?

I am a world traveler, part-time road warrior, and home body all wrapped up in one gadget-loving package. I work a full-time, high demand job in educational technology. My true joy is helping others find technology tools that actually make their life easier, more fun, and their work more efficient. I'm happiest with a camera in my hand and love to write about all tech, but especially love giving a little Android LUV!

I love the improved gmail and calendar. The design is cleaner, simler, almost Windows-phone-ish (in a good way). And I love the new font. I like the NFC (I think it’s the wave of the future) and the unlocking with your face, but the first two things are going to actually improve my productivity on a daily basis.

Katrina – I agree about the design of the Gmail and Calendar apps being simpler and cleaner – much like the web based versions.
